1. Overheating the Bearing

One of the most common mistakes is heating the bearing to an excessively high temperature. In most cases, the recommended heating temperature is between 80°C and 110°C. Heating the bearing beyond this range may affect the hardness of the steel and damage the bearing's internal structure.

Using equipment with temperature control can help prevent overheating.

 

2. Using Open Flame for Heating

Some technicians still use open flame or simple heating tools to heat bearings. This method often leads to uneven heating and can easily cause local overheating.

Uneven heating may result in deformation of the bearing or damage to the raceway. For this reason, controlled heating methods are strongly recommended.

 

3. Heating Bearings in Oil Baths Without Control

Oil bath heating has been used for many years, but it also has several disadvantages. If the oil temperature is not properly monitored, the bearing may be overheated.

In addition, oil contamination can enter the bearing, affecting lubrication and cleanliness. Many industries are gradually replacing this method with induction heating equipment.

 

4. Applying Force During Installation

Even after heating, some operators still apply excessive mechanical force when mounting the bearing. This may cause internal stress or damage to the rolling elements.

When a bearing is heated correctly, it should slide smoothly onto the shaft without requiring heavy force.

 

5. Using Improper Heating Equipment

Using heating equipment that does not match the bearing size or weight can also create problems. Small heaters may not provide sufficient heating capacity, while improper heating tools may cause uneven temperature distribution.
