How To Install A Bearing On A Shaft?

Mar 16, 2026 Leave a message

In industrial maintenance, installing bearings onto shafts is a common task. Proper installation is crucial to preventing bearing damage and ensuring reliable equipment operation.

Traditional methods such as heating with gas fire, boiling in oil, or hammering not only affect the lifespan of the bearing itself but also pose negative risks to the operator.

Currently, the widely used method is the use of bearing heaters. These heaters uniformly heat the bearing using electromagnetic induction, causing the inner ring to expand and easily achieve an interference fit without applying excessive force.

Bearing heaters are very easy for anyone to operate.

1. First, place the bearing on the yoke.

2. Attach a K-type temperature probe to the inner ring of the bearing and monitor the heating process using temperature control.

3. Set the heating temperature to 110°C (higher temperatures can affect the bearing material).

4. Start the bearing heater; the bearing gradually heats up, reaching 110°C within 30 seconds.

5. The bearing heater performs an automatic demagnetization check, achieving a demagnetization standard of <2A/CM.

6. Move the heating rod, remove the bearing, and quickly install it onto the shaft. As the bearing cools, it contracts and forms a firm fit with the shaft.

Compared to traditional methods such as hammering or flame heating, induction heating offers a safer and more controlled installation process while helping to extend the bearing's lifespan.
